I started spending time in nature from the time I was 6 months old (Thanks Mom and Dad!) and I've been an avid hiker, backpacker, and explorer for most of my adult life. I love spending solo time in the quiet woods of Colorado (especially Rocky Mountain National Park, which has been my second "home" since I was 9 months old) and there is something about the Sonoran Desert that just calls to me. I can literally stare at the Saguaro and other plants for hours. The plants, the animals, the feel of it...fascinating.
I bought my first professional camera at 20 years old and never learned how to use it. I bought my second DSLR camera at 30 years old, never learned how to use it and gave it to a friend. On intuition, I bought my third professional camera (a used Sony a7Rii mirrorless) and one 28 mm fixed prime lens in early February 2024 and hit the trail with it, teaching myself how to use it as I go. I've still never taken a photography course. Maybe someday.
I take hundreds of images every time I go outdoors, because it's like I can't see landscapes without seeing a photo frame around them. I’m passionate about discovering and creating images in nature that speak to human emotions. This truly feels like my soul's work. I can get lost in it for hours and I absolutely love it. I can't imagine my life without my camera around my neck.
I currently live part of the year in Denver, Colorado and part of the year outside of Tucson, Arizona. My dream is to get a little travel trailer and hit the roads of the American West with my Jack Russell Terrier (and photo assistant), Rosie, when Tucson gets too hot for her little feet. I am so grateful for anyone who feels inspired by my photos…Thank you for making my dreams come true!
“What’s funny is I don’t like the desert. I’m a water baby, I need my ocean, but Kristin manages to capture so much life and movement in her photos. it’s really incredible.”
