Does a Client Play a Role in a Mediumship Reading? And If So, What Is It?

In Mediumship, the connection between the Medium and the client is a key factor in the overall success of a reading. As a psychic medium, I am a conduit or mediator between you and the Spirit world and it’s important to recognize that your energy, mindset, and emotional state as the client can significantly influence the flow and clarity of messages received. Let’s explore some ways that a client can affect a mediumship reading and why your role is important in making the experience as insightful and meaningful as possible!

  • Emotional State and Openness

A client’s emotional state is one of the most influential factors in a psychic mediumship session. Mediums generally work with very subtle energies and the clearer and more focused your energy as the client is, the more likely it is that the message will come through accurately.

Openness: If the client is open-minded, it creates a more receptive environment. Clients that are closed-off or skeptical might unintentionally block the flow of messages, as their skepticism can create mental barriers that prevent the medium from connecting as strongly. I have worked with skeptical clients and been able to make a connection and relay the message, but it definitely helps if the client is upfront about feeling skeptical! Being skeptical doesn’t necessarily block a reading, it just may take additional time or persistence from the medium to break through doubts.

Emotional Blockages: If the client has unresolved trauma or is in a heightened emotional state, it can be more difficult for the medium to navigate through the dense energy. While grief and emotions are very much a part of the reading process and I especially enjoy helping clients heal unresolved issues with their loved ones in Spirit, I tend to feel a client’s heightened emotional state in my own body, which can make it more tricky to distinguish what is being relayed from Spirit. Often if a client mentions that they are feeling anxious or frustrated, etc., I can more easily recognize what is coming from Spirit.

  • Expectations vs. Surrendering to the Experience

For me, this is the biggest factor in shaping a reading! If a client has very specific expectations about what they want to hear or whom they want to hear from, it extremely limits the flow of the session.

Too Much Focus on Specifics: If a client is overly focused on only hearing from a specific person or is expecting a particular message, it interferes with the medium’s ability to receive messages. It’s helpful to note that Spirits may not communicate in the way you’re expecting, or they might share a different message than you’re anticipating. It’s very important to understand that the Spirit world has reasons for bringing loved ones through in the order they do. For example, if you’re expecting to hear from your dad and your grandfather shows up first, it may be that the Spirit world is helping to loosen up your mind or emotions to prepare you to hear from dad.

Surrendering: Clients who approach a reading with an open heart and a willingness to surrender to whatever messages come through tend to have the most successful experiences. By letting go of expectations, the client helps the medium to receive information in a natural and unimpeded flow.

  • Spiritual Belief Systems

A client definitely does not need to be spiritual or religious to receive messages, but having a comfort with the concept of an afterlife or spirit communication may enhance the overall experience. If a client believes in the possibility of communication with spirits it enhances the energetic connection. This stronger belief can create a sense of trust and openness, which helps me as the medium to feel confident and secure in what I am relaying!

  • Client’s Personal Energy and Aura

As a medium, my job is to tune into Spirits’ energy but I can also sense the energy of my clients.

Positive Energy: A client who is calm, peaceful, and grounded creates an atmosphere that supports the flow of information from the Spirit world. This positive energy helps me as a medium to remain clear and focused, which leads to more accurate and detailed readings!

Tension or Anxiety: If a client is anxious, nervous, or skeptical, this energy can make it harder for the medium to establish a clear connection with the Spirit world. Overall this can lead to less clarity and less detail in a reading. If a client mentions ahead of time that they are feeling this way, it can help me to mentally place where this energy is coming from.

  • The Power of Validation and Feedback

Mediumship is a co-creative and collaborative process between the medium, the Spirit world, and the client. When a client provides positive validation or feedback during the reading, it strengthens the energy and helps me as the medium to refine the messages I’m receiving!

Active Participation: A client’s active participation can be incredibly helpful. If the medium shares a piece of information that resonates or is accurate, confirming this allows the medium to go deeper into the details and the overall message. Some mediums prefer a “yes”, “no”, or “I don’t know” only but I personally appreciate a little more input to help me un-knot things when the information is complex or complicated.

Doubts and Disconfirmation: If a client consistently doubts or dismisses information (especially without fully considering it first), it can tangle up the energy flow. Spirits don’t ever leave a reading but mediums lose the connection or awareness of the Spirit by analyzing or doubting. In other words, when the medium is too in their thought process, they literally cannot be with Spirit too. As a client, of course it’s okay to say “no” when something doesn’t resonate…It’s important to note that There may be times in which Mediums misunderstand the communication or what the Spirit is trying to relay. A “no” is an invitation for us to go back and listen again.

  • When a Spirit Comes Through That the Client Doesn’t Want to Hear From

In some cases, a spirit may come through that the client doesn’t necessarily want to hear from, whether due to unresolved conflict, a difficult past relationship, or emotional pain associated with that person. This situation can be challenging for both the Medium and the client, but it’s important to navigate it with care.

Acknowledging the Spirit’s Presence: If a Spirit is coming through strongly, it’s crucial for the medium to acknowledge the presence of the Spirit, even if the client is uncomfortable with the communication. Avoiding or suppressing the message may block other connections from coming through, or the Spirit may continue to make contact in future sessions. In this case, the medium can gently communicate with the client about the Spirit’s presence, and ask if they’re willing to hear the message.

Setting Boundaries: If the client is unwilling to receive messages from a specific Spirit, they have the right to express this. As a medium, I”ll respect your wishes by politely acknowledging the Spirit but refraining from relaying further messages. I can then attempt to connect with other spirits you are more comfortable with.

Healing Opportunity: In my experience, a Spirit that is unwanted presents an opportunity for healing. They may bring a message of closure, apology, or reconciliation that can help a client move forward emotionally. If a client is open to receiving this, it can lead to profound personal growth. If a client is not ready, the medium should honor the boundary and allow the client to work through their feelings in their own time.

Allowing Space for Processing: When a Spirit comes through that a client is hesitant about, it’s important to take some space in the session to process any emotions that arise. You as the client may be encouraged to take some time to reflect on the message, ask further questions, or to take a break from the reading and revisit the topic when you’re feeling more comfortable.

A successful mediumship reading is a three-way exchange of energy and the client’s mindset, emotional state, and openness all contribute to the clarity, accuracy, and depth of the evidence and messages that come through. By approaching the session with an open heart, trusting the process, and providing accurate feedback, the client plays a pivotal role in ensuring the medium can effectively connect and relay messages from the Spirit world. In other words, it’s always great if you can help me, help you. It creates a win-win for you and for your loved ones in Spirit! Mediumship isn’t an exact science but together we can create a fulfilling (and hopefully fun) experience for you!
