Grieving the Loss of a Dog—A Healing Message from the Other Side
Our pets can play a large role in our lives becoming cherished members of our families, offering unconditional love, companionship, and a source of joy. When they pass away, it's not just the absence of their physical presence that weighs heavily on our hearts, but also the unique bond and shared moments that can never be replaced. Coping with the grief of losing a pet can be a long and difficult journey, as their memory continues to hold a special place in our hearts, reminding us of the love and happiness they brought into our lives.
I had a very special spiritual experience recently, a close friend was grieving the loss of his dog as it neared the anniversary date of his passing and I felt his dog come through quite clearly and strongly, so I offered my friend a psychic reading. I never had the pleasure of meeting Barkley but immediately I felt the essence of this boy as a kind, wise-beyond-his-years, proud, and confident dog. Barkley gave me a clear image and feeling of him strutting down the sidewalks of NYC, almost like he owned that city, enjoying his time and also guiding and protecting his owner at the times he needed it most. Barkley had a lot to share about his time with my friend, how much he enjoyed and appreciated it, even when my friend couldn’t afford the best food or expensive treats, and how much he enjoyed his role of being the “rock” for my friend. I spent several minutes sharing the images and words Barkley shared with me and, just when I thought Barkley was finished with the message, I received what I can best characterize as a download of information (I love these because they literally are not MY thoughts…they are in my stream of consciousness but don’t come from me and aren’t anything I already know) that was not only for my friend, but related to something I’ve struggled with as well. It’s also something I’ve spent a lot of time on in grief counseling sessions with clients…all the ways we think we screwed up as pet owners, all of our perceived shortcomings, and all the guilt we carry after their passing for how we could have “done it better”.
Barkley shared with me that animals choose their humans too. And not just on a physical level, but on a soul level. In other words, animals and their humans are in each other's lives very purposefully…to help you BOTH learn important lessons. They choose the journey just as we do. In the words of Barkley, “You literally can’t eff this up”! So, it’s okay to absolve yourself of any guilt you still carry about your time with your pet. Rest assured that no matter how things went, your pet not only taught you some important lessons but he or she learned some too.
